Johnson County Food Service ROCKS!

While today is our last day delivering meals via bus routes, we want to take a minute to stop and thank everyone who made this possible for our students. Thank you to ALL of our cafeteria workers, bus drivers, administrators, teachers and assistants who worked together to feed our students during this time.

Our cafeteria staff produced an average of over 10,000 meals per week for the past 9 weeks!

Johnson County Schools understands this unprecedented time can present many challenges and obstacles for students and families. To further address those efforts, we have created a form for families to fill out if they find themselves in need. Once the form has been submitted, a member from our Student Support Services Team will be in contact to further address your needs.

On Monday April 27th, Director of Schools, Dr. Mischelle Simcox met with leaders from the graduating class to receive their input on several different options to conduct this year's graduation ceremony. Dr. Simcox later announced plans for the class of 2020 graduation ceremony.

Class of 2020 and Longhorn families, We are very proud of your accomplishments; we are pleased to announce further details for this year's graduation ceremony. As a result of government guidelines and public health concerns, our process will be to host a "drive-in" graduation at Chamber Park. Each student will be allowed to bring two cars of guests to the event. This will enable us to respect social distancing guidelines while still being able to hold a graduation for our seniors.

Valedictorian for the Class of 2020 is a senior with a 4.0 GPA and the highest ACT composite score among the graduates. This student will receive the Valedictorian medal as well as the top 10% gold chord which she will wear at the commencement ceremony. The date for the commencement ceremony has not been confirmed at this time as we continue to monitor state and federal guidance to ensure the safety of all those involved.

While school hallways across the state may be dark and quiet, staff and administrators are missing their students deeply. Director of Schools Dr. Mischelle Simcox sent out over 2,100 post cards to every student across the district this week. Although these postcards differ in style, they all share the same message, “We miss you!”

“We miss our students!” stated Simcox, “This is definitely a time of uncertainty and I wanted our students and staff to know we are thinking about them and can’t wait until they are back in school.” Johnson County Schools closed on March 17th and since then teachers and administrators alike have continued to reach out to students daily. “This is a time where we are all coming together as a community and supporting one another.” stated Simcox, “We will continue to support and help our students during this time, we are always committed to the well-being of our students.”

Johnson County Schools Closed - 2020 School year

Due to the Governor's recent recommendations, Johnson County Schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. We will be providing more information and guidance over the next few days. We want to ensure that our students continue to learn and our teachers will still be providing resources over the next few weeks. As of right now, we will continue to send out meals to all students under the age of 18 years old through our Food Service meals program. To the Class of 2020, we will still plan on having a Graduation ceremony and Prom. Details regarding the date and times will be provided within the next few weeks. Thank you all for your continued support and understanding during this COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 Information

Johnson County Schools Health and Safety Update COVID-19 Updates

Johnson County Schools - Health and Safety Update - March 6, 2020

Johnson County Schools is monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for information and guidelines regarding the status of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). We understand that school staff, parents and the community are concerned about everyone's health and safety. Administrators in Johnson County will keep a close eye on guidance from state, local and national experts on the issue. Our custodial staff continue to disinfect the classrooms and buildings with disinfectants that are shown to protect against the coronavirus COVID-19. Since this is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation, the CDC and other health authorities from around the globe are closely monitoring the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak and are implementing measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

It is our goal to keep students, employees and the community healthy and safe. We will continue to work with local, state and federal health agencies to make necessary revisions to our Response Plan as new information becomes available. At this time, the CDC recommends guidelines and precautions similar to the flu; wash hands regularly with warm water and soap, and cover coughs and sneezes. For information and resources on the coronavirus COVID-19, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website:

Updates to the Johnson County Schools Call Out System School Messenger Image

Johnson County Schools have been using software for several years to communicate with its parents, staff and students about local events, school schedule changes and general school related information. There have been some major updates to the software over the past couple of months that have not allowed our e-mail communication to go out alongside our voice messages. This has created some confusion and has limited effective communication between the schools and parents. With assistance and guidance from our software team at School Messenger, we have a solution in place that will allow everyone to continue receiving calls via voice and e-mail.
